A charming town center
Danville: A charming town center and posh neighborhoods surrounded by abundant oak trees and parklands. Originally inhabited by Bay Miwok tribes, the area that would become Danville was, early on, part of Mission San Jose’s grazing land.
Settled and named during the Gold Rush, this bucolic farming community switched from wheat to fruits and nuts after the Southern Pacific Railroad came to town in the late 1800’s. Housing tracts sprang up in the early 1950’s and the population boomed during the 70’s and 80’s. But that didn’t disturb the small-town feel and quaint nature of the place. Danville’s high quality of life continues today – residents enjoy a wide choice of recreational options, in addition to safety, a bustling commercial area, and a stellar school system.
The Iron Horse Trail (as the name implies, built on the first railroad tracks) offers endless paths for running, walking and biking. The Las Trampas Regional Wilderness allows trail riding over its thousands of acres. Weekly farmers markets, delicious restaurants, and wonderful shopping add to the allure of Old Town, where residents and visitors alike stroll and chat. Community events, art festivals, concerts and a benign climate add to the allure of this special place.
Danville is one of California's wealthiest cities. It ranks as the 2nd highest-income place in the nation with a population of at least 40,000. Home to expensive real estate and exclusive country clubs, the town offers homes of all styles—traditional, ranch, contemporary, and custom homes—as well as gated communities. Whether you seek a pool, a patio or a horse corral, you can find it.
